The Volkswagen Group is working on a production plan that covers more of the brands it owns. The plan includes a strategy to produce the Porsche Cayman, the Boxster and the Volkswagen Golf in the same facility. But this would only be possible if the Zuffenhausen facility, current assembly plant that will build the two Porsche models, will reach its maximum capacity, prompting VW to find other ways to cope with demand. AutoBild reports that the two Porsche models could be produced in the same plant as the Volkswagen Golf Convertible.

But since Porsche's models are generally sold in low volumes, this is nearly impossible. This is actually not the first time that the Volkswagen Group has chosen to combine more of the brands it owns into the production process of other models. An issue crops up since producing two Porsches together with a Volkswagen in the same plant might lead to perception problems among buyers. Notably, Volkswagen Group earlier this year chose to make Audi the sole developer of SUVs for the whole group. In addition, Porsche would be responsible for all sports cars to be sold by brands included in the Volkswagen Group, which is hoping that it will benefit the most from the resources each entity has.
