Porsche’s North American headquarters will be moved from a suburb north of Atlanta to the site of a demolished Ford Motor Co. assembly plant beside the Atlanta airport, according to a report from the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Long ago, this Ford plant had assembled the Ford Taurus and the Mercury Sable. The official announcement is expected to be made on Thursday. Sources told the Autonews that Porsche intends to construct a new headquarters building as well as a test track at this site in Hapeville, Ga. Porsche intends to make this track similar to its track in Silverstone, England.

There are 200 employees at Porsche’s Atlanta-area office in Sandy Springs, Ga., located north of the city center. Meanwhile, at the south of the city center is where Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson airport is located. It was in 1947 that Ford opened the Atlanta assembly plant. In October 2006, the plant was shut down. Jacoby Development Inc. bought the site in 2008. Shortly afterwards, the plant was demolished.
