Although the 911 GT2 RS is Porsche’s most extreme supercar in its current lineup, it appears that the German manufacturer wants a new car that will be slotted above the limited edition coupe in order to boost its sales. And this is not the only plan from Porsche, as the company also wants to introduce additional variants of the Cayman and Boxster, but also an extended-wheelbase and convertible versions of the Panamera four-door coupe. The new sports car will be cheaper than the 768,000 euros 918 Spyder hybrid which will make its debut in 2014, and Porsche is currently examining what options could be derived from this hole in the product range, says Bloomberg.
Bernhard Maier, Porsche’s sales chief, said in an interview that Porsche already has some ideas that look very promising on paper. According to the same sources, Porsche is planning a product expansion due to the fact that its orders fell 12 percent to 10,450 vehicles in June, and order growth was cut this year to 25 percent. Sales increases “will turn out to be lower in the second half of the year,” said Maier. Porsche also expects to see bigger sales next year as the seventh generation of the 911 will be introduced at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show in September. Moreover, Porsche’s range will expand even further with the introduction of the Cajun compact sport- utility vehicle in 2013.
