Porsche debuted at the Le Mans 24hrs exactly 60 years ago. It was also 41 years ago that Hans Herrmann and Richard Attwood were at the start line of the French endurance race. It was this win that made the brand well known in racing. This triumph was commemorated with the racing number 23, which is seen in the latest collection from Porsche Design Drivers’ Selection. Each item in this lineup features the unique ‘Porsche Team Salzburg’ red and white livery from the 917K used by Herrmann and Attwood. For a short trip, the Team Salzburg overnight bag (£125) and wallet (£15) would be perfect. The themed mug (£15) and glass coaster set (£40) would be great gifts for the homebody. Porsche won the Le Mans 24hours in 1971. For almost 40 years, Porsche held the distance record: 3,315 miles at an average speed of 138mph. Porsche is also offering a collectors edition – a 1:43 scale model of this 917 KH (£40) Le Mans winning car from 1971 as part of the Heritage collection.
The MARTINI liveried model is offered in a one-of-a-kind presentation box in celebration of its 40th anniversary. The colors of the Porsche MARTINI RACING Heritage that are recognized by racing enthusiasts everywhere are featured prominently in the 2011 Porsche Design Drivers’ Selection collection. Available clothing include Polo and Rugby Shirts for men and women (priced from £50), as well as a man’s hooded shirt (£75) and women’s large-logo racer-back vest (£35). There are a few seasonal items to mark the summer too. Beach items include the Beach Ball (£39), Beach Chair (£70) and large beach towel (£45). These all feature the unique Porsche MARTINI Racing livery. Collectors of model cars will surely want the 1:43 scale model of the 936/76 ‘Black Widow’ race car (£32), which shows off the traditional red and blue racing colors but in darker shades.
