The Race Edition Pilot is the first made-in-Germany shoe by Porsche Design Sport, a collaboration between adidas and the Porsche Design luxury brand. This product, which is Porsche Design Sport’s most innovative Driving shoe so far, is part of its Spring / Summer 2011 collection. It is manufactured at the adidas shoe production facility in Scheinfeld (Bavaria), which is also the plant that produces football shoes, such as the Copa Mundial and World Cup. The Race Edition Pilot Shoe takes its inspiration from open-road racing, adding a rounded heel and collar padding for comfort.
For platform stability and a smoother ride, the Race Edition Pilot has been given a TPU midsole shell that’s engineered with shock-absorbing adiPRENE. Meanwhile, low-profile rubber outsole inserts facilitate fluid pedal work. The Pilot’s silhouette is made from premium Italian full-grain aniline leather. Each day, 100 pairs are being produced, making use of components, uppers and soles supplied from Asia. There are 30 production steps in making the shoe. The most important steps of the process include attaching the insole, lining up the toe, pre-spreading the lasting margin (lower edge of the upper), clipping the side margin and heel, buffing and finely polishing the uppers, cementing the lasting margin and sole, applying and pressing the sole, finishing, and final inspection. The Porsche Design Sport collection was launched in 2006. It aims to combine engineering excellence with an inherent commitment to refined style.
