Porsche officials have revealed several details about an upcoming mid-engine supercar that will be slotted right between the higher-performance 911 models and the limited-production 918. Porsche CEO Matthias Müller told German newspaper Handelsblatt that there is room for a mid-engine sports car on top of the 911. He said that it’s very probable that this model, which is in a price segment of 400,000 euros, would be built. This new mid-engine supercar will go up against Ferrari’s 458 Italia and its successor. Ferdinand Piech, who heads the VW Group’s supervisory board and is a true Ferrari fan, is expected to be interested in this supercar. Piech has said previously that Porsche is similar to a diamond that would have to be polished, according to Caranddriver.

He has even gone on record to say that this supercar may be his dream car. Aside from offering a top performance, the supercar is expected to attract buyers who like the balanced dynamics of mid-engine cars more than the rear-engine layout of the 911. Porsche 911 is great but it does have limitations. This is why Porsche has not used the mid-engine twins for the 911 when it comes to price and power. Porsche hasn’t released the official details with regards to platform and powerplants but it’s believed that the new supercar will use numerous parts from the impending “modular sports architecture” that it is intended for the next generation of Audi, Lamborghini and Porsche sports cars. Porsche’s mid-engine supercar will have an output that exceeds that of the 911 Turbo as it can deliver more than 600 hp and it can go from a standstill to 60mph in 3 to 4 seconds. It can reach a top speed of more than 200 mph. This car is built using aluminum and carbon fiber so that it could reduce its weight. It’s not expected to be a hybrid technology showcase such as the upcoming 918, which costs twice as much.
