The much-awaited roadsters from Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen are built on the same mid-engined platform and they are based on the same common rear-wheel-drive underpinnings and feature the same electrical structure. However, these roadsters are designed to appeal to different sets of buyers. Each of these cars will get individual exterior styling. Audi’s roadster takes inspiration from the techno-look of the E-tron Spyder concept. This means that it will receive fresh lines that will be used as a template for the next-generation R8, according to Autocar.

On the other hand, the Porsche is based on the 550 Spyder, which was launched in 1953. According to sources, Porsche’s new entry-level car is inspired by the ‘550’ – a car whose later generations had won several races for the company. Volkswagen is a volume car maker and so it’s only appropriate that its roadster will has styling that’s inspired by its present car range. In fact, this was already previewed in 2009 on the BlueSport concept at Detroit. There will be different interiors for each of these cars, reflecting the instrument panel architectures and molding shapes that are also featured in the models that these companies have recently released. The main instrument binnacle and dials of each brand’s roadster will be unique. The minor switchgear for each model will also be different. The cabins of the Audi Q7, Porsche Cayenne and Volkswagen Touareg SUVs are different from each other too. The companies exerted a lot of effort on making sure that the new engines of the new Audi, Porsche and Volkswagen roadsters have their own character.
