As you may know already, Porsche unveiled this summer the all-new 911, a new version of the most popular sports car found on the market. The new car showed a new design for the exterior and the interior as well as new engines. For the moment, the German manufacturer unveiled the Carrera and the Carrera S versions of the 911, but engineers are currently working on all the versions offered by the previous versions.
The 2012 Porsche 911 Carrera is powered by a 3.4-litre boxer engine delivering 350 hp (~ 257 kW), enough to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.6 seconds when paired with the PDK, and in just 4.4 seconds when using the Sport Plus. The car still offers a fuel consumption of just 8.2 litres per 100 kilometres (~ 34 mpg imp.) and 194 g/km CO2, with 1.6 l/100 km (~ 6 mpg imp.) less than its predecessor. The 911 Carrera S is powered by a 3.8-litre boxer engine delivering 400 hp (~ 294 kW) and can sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just in 4.3 seconds and in just 4.1 seconds when using the optional Sport Chrono package. The 911 Carrera S has a fuel consumption of 8.7 l/100 km (~ 32 mpg imp.), when paired with the PDK. It is obvious that the new car was hardly improved and as a result, the 2012 Porsche 911 is 13 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than the previous model. According to GoAuto, the car managed to lap the well known race track in 7 minutes and 40 seconds, which means that the vehicle is as fast as the previous generation 911 GT3.
