Porsche announced today that it has updated the Cayenne Diesel. According to the German manufacturer the power of the 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine was increased to 245 hp (a 5 hp increase), while delivering a fuel consumption of just 7.2 litres of diesel per 100 km (39 mpg imp.). The CO2 emissions also dropped six grams to 189 g/km. As expected, the performances improved and the Porsche Cayenne Diesel needs only 7.6 seconds (minus 0.2 seconds) to reach 100 km/h (62 mph) while the top speed is limited to 220 km/h (137 mph).
Porsche says that the improvements were achieved by using new materials to reduce weight, lower frictional resistance to a revamp of the injection system as well as a new turbocharger. Moreover, the direct injection pressure increased by 200 to a maximum of 2000 bar. These modifications also reduced the total weight of the V6 engine by 20 kilograms, while the Cayenne Diesel has now a total weight of 2080 kilograms. And the good news continue as the Cayenne Diesel is not the only model improved! Porsche also says that it also improved the Cayenne S Hybrid as the model offers now even more specific driving experiences thanks to modifications to the hybrid manager. Porsche says that if the conditions are right, it is now possible even from a cold start to drive and manoeuvre at low speed on electric power alone. For those who don’t know, the current model can do this only if the operating temperature had been reached.
